It’s Rarely Just About Capacity

We’ve never had a client say: “We’re looking for a room with theatre-style seating for 300 people.”

Of course, capacity matters. As does the budget, the location and overall venue style. But those are the practicalities, and they rarely define the venue. Instead, our conversations sound a little more like this.

“We want people to walk in and say wow.”

“Somewhere that doesn’t feel too corporate.”

“We’ll have international guests, so transport links are important.”

“The food has to be good.”

“We’d love somewhere with natural daylight.”

“We’re after something a bit different.”

These are the details that shape an event long before the first guest arrives.

At The Collection by Searcys, we spend a lot of time visiting venues, and if there’s one thing we’ve learnt, it’s that the best spaces are the ones that make people feel something.

Sometimes that’s a breathtaking view across London’s skyline, a quaint garden in the middle of the city, or sometimes it’s walking through a secret doorway.

First Impressions Matter

We all know that your event starts well before the welcome speech. The event starts as guests step off the train, bus, boat, and walk through the front doors. Those first few moments really set the tone for everything that follows, which is why were always thinking beyond the meeting space itself.

What’s the arrival like? Will people find it easily? Does the venue have a grand sense of occasion?

These are often the questions that make the biggest difference.

Food Is No Longer An Afterthought

We’re seeing more and more clients putting food at the heart of the experience. The days of a standard buffet and a pot of coffee are fading. Clients want menus that reflect the season, accommodate different dietary requirements without compromise and give guests something to talk about afterwards.

Sometimes, the meal becomes the most memorable part of the day.

Flexibility Is Invaluable

No two briefs are ever the same! One client needs space for breakout sessions, another wants a room that transforms from conference to dinner, while someone else is looking for an outdoor terrace for post-event drinks.

The venues we return to time and again are the ones that adapt effortlessly.

The Little Things

Natural daylight, comfortable furniture, a neighbourhood worth exploring after the event, a team that greets guests with genuine warmth… and yes, sometimes it’s even the coffee.

These are the details that rarely make it into the brief, but they’re often the things guests remember long after the event has finished. It’s those thoughtful touches that transform a venue from simply functional into somewhere people genuinely enjoy spending time.

When we recommend a venue, its because we genuinely think it’ll work for your event, not because it ticks the right boxes on a spreadsheet, or matches your capacity request.
