A wee trip to Scotland
Here at The Collection, we love London. The endless list of foodie hotspots, nightlife to make your dancing shoes tremble, informative exhibitions, gorgeous parks… the list goes on!
While the capital holds a special place in our hearts, there’s a whole country outside of this sprawling city; so we took a break from the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke to go and see some of our beautiful Scottish venues.
Here’s a few observations from our trip across the border:
Flying from London City airport is a travellers dream. Really! Small but with all the amenities, brilliantly efficient and 20 minutes from your house (well, maybe.)
Stirling Castle is a venue that makes you want to paint your face blue and scream Braveheart quotes into the distance. Especially with the Wallace Monument dominating the view. It’s a stunning space for a banquet, wedding or away day with traditional theme.
The National Museum of Scotland would give any of the London museums a run for their money. It celebrates Celtic history, art and design, and the countries beautiful landscape. It’s main space is an ornate Victorian birdcage suitable for up to 1500 guests.
Architecture in Edinburgh follows in the 12th century castles footsteps and is something of a fairy-tale-come-horror-movie affair; all Gothic spires and winding streets. Edinburgh Castle reigns supreme over the sky line perched on a hill in the centre of the city. The views are wonderful and you really feel like you’ve stepped back in time when the gun salute goes off at noon everyday.
Despite what people say, the weather’s not as bad as you think. Although we’d still suggest taking a jacket… and maybe a brolly.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to try haggis so we’ll reserve judgement on that peculiar dish for now.
