Boathouse 4 was built in 1939 due to the need for a rapid rearmament programme prior to World War II. The vast building, incorporating its own dock and locks, is typical of 1930s military industrial architecture.

The main part of the Boathouse is used for repairing and remaking sea vessels. Overlooking the hard work is the elegant and sleek restaurant, offering a unique nautical setting for both corporate and private events, paring original features with a fresh modern feel which celebrates Portsmouth Naval Heritage. Fantastic bright and airy, with views over Portsmouth harbour, guests can sit and watch the world sail by while enjoying the delicious in-house catering.
